globe Adoption Information for Americans Abroad

My name is Michele Jordan. I am the CHI's Coordinator for Americans Abroad and Ukraine Programs, as well as an adoption attorney. I have been licensed to practice law in New Jersey since 1975 and Arizona since 1992 with a J.D. from Notre Dame University. I have been working in adoption for 20 years and am pleased to say I have been with CHI for over 10 years. I am passionate able helping children and parents become families through adoption. I have been a part of hundreds of domestic and international adoptions throughout my career. This work is all about my passion for children and their futures.

The Americans Abroad Program is designed for families who reside outside the US. This includes U.S. citizens temporarily or permanently living abroad such as military families and expats, as well as dual nationality couples. I travel to military bases and international locations, scheduling seminars and speaking to families who are living overseas. I also travel abroad annually to meet with our overseas families, as well as to countries where we have adoption programs, such as Ukraine and China,  so that I may experience the adoption process first hand and meet with our foreign coordinators in these countries.

I work hand-in-hand with Heidi Hawkins in our Washington office to guide you through the entire process. This includes helping you make an informed decision on which country you may adopt from. Finding a social worker that in qualified to complete your home study. Aiding in the submission of your I600A application to the appropriate consulate in order to obtain a visa to enter the U.S. with your adoptive child. If necessary, we will provide direction to obtain any visas necessary to enter your country of residence. We will instruct you on the process to expedited your child's passport once you reach the U.S. so that you can return to your home overseas as quickly as possible.

I coordinate adoption programs in Ukraine and for families living outside the U.S. and work closely with the program coordinators in China, Guatemala , Kazakhstan, Hungary and Ethiopia. I am pleased to offer our families aboard the following country options. (Click on the country to contact the Program Director for that country):

I am proud to say that I was recognized for my work in adoptions with a national award in 2005. I was presented by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute the outstanding award of an "Angel In Adoption" for 20 years serving children and families.

I believe that each family united with a child is a true gift and that "Every child deserves a loving and permanent family and feel I am blessed to be a part of that process."

Children's House International is proud to again participant in the 15th annual European Adoption Symposium. This one-day event will be held Saturday 12 May 2007 in Kaiserslautern, Germany. The location is approximately 75 miles southwest of Frankfurt and near Ramstein Air Force Base.

There is substantial interest in adoption within the overseas American European community of nearly 400,000. From Norway to Iraq, this population is comprised of active-duty military, U.S. government, and multi-national company personnel. Reflecting on recent years, we anticipate an attendance of 180-250 people.

The purpose of the symposium is twofold: 1) to educate and prepare individuals who are interested in adoption and 2) to provide support and resources for current adoptive families.

US Citizens abroad are invited to attend a new adoption workshop in Italy. This will be the first year hosting and event focused adoption, based on the overwhelmingly positive response from the community. This will be one of two event's our own Michele Jordan, Families Abroad Program Coordinator, will be attending this spring. The seminar will be held May 5, 2007 on the Navy Base which is located about 20 minutes from the Naples airport. The navy base is located in a town called Gricignano in the province of Caserta (all under the umbrella of Naples). For more information please contact Michele at mtjordan51@hotmail.com.
