flag Adoption Information for Azerbaijan

Limited application program.

Children's House International (CHI) is excited to announce that we have opened a new program in Azerbaijan! This is a new program for our agency.

Hi! I'm Erin Tucker the Program Coordinator for Kazakhstan. I am a Masters level Social Worker and the proud parent of 3 young children. I am pleased to say that I've been placing children in their forever families for over 5 years.

The Children

The children available for adoption from Azerbaijan range in age from toddler to 15 years. Families may adopt siblings or 2 unrelated children at once. There are also children with special needs available to families prepared to love and care for such a child.

Adoptive Parents: Qualifications

Qualifications for adoptive parents are reasonably flexible in Azerbaijan. Couples that have a strong and long-term relationship, whether legally married or partnered, are able to pursue adoption in Azerbaijan. Single mothers are also able to adopt from the country. Adoptive mothers must be under 50 years of age to adopt children under 2 years. The age of the adoptive father is not a factor. There is no set income requirement so long as the adoptive parents have proven their financial ability to raise a child. There is no restriction on family size so long as there is sufficient financial, emotional and social support available.

Travel

After submission of a completed dossier, families should receive a referral in approximately 4 to 6 months, and can travel within a month of formally accepting a referral. There are 2 trips required to complete your adoption. Both parents must be present during the first trip, during which you will meet the child and go to court. This trip should last approximately 2-3 days. Only 1 parent needs to return for the second trip, during which time the adoption will be finalized in Azerbaijan. The second trip will consist of 10-15 days in Baku obtaining the birth certificate, passport, etc, and an additional 2-3 days in Tibilisi, Georgia for exit procedures at the U.S. Embassy. An escort option is currently under discussion, and may be available for the second trip.

Time to Completion

Although each adoptive family will have a different adoption timeline based on their individual preferences, most adoptive families can expect to complete their adoption within 9 months of the submission of the dossier.
