flag Adoption Information for Mexico

We are excited about our Mexico program. This program works with birth mothers, who privately relinquish their newborns to the adoptive parents.

Basic Requirements:
Married couples of at least 5 years may adopt infants. Mexico is flexible with age of parents. Both parents must travel to Guadalajara, Mexico twice, or they may stay in the resort community Ajijic for the 4-5 month process.

Process In General:
The family must travel to Guadalajara, Mexico. Guadalajara, sitting on a plateau of 5,200 ft. above sea level in the Mexican state of Jalisco, is known as the "city of roses". Like its sister city Portland, Oregon, this Mexican jewel is green, sophisticated and charming. The mile high setting blesses the entire area with almost year-round spring-like weather. The days are warm and sunny and the evenings are clear and cool. There the locals are welcoming, making Guadalajara the perfect place for the adoptive parents to settle in and wait for their adoption process to be completed.

This program is unique as the prospective parents are matched with a birthmother. The family will arrive in Mexico as soon as possible after the baby is born. At this time, the family will formally petition the court to begin the adoption process. The family will receive provisional custody during their 3-4 week stay in GUADALAJARA. During the first trip, the family will need to provide 2 witnesses, who will need to be available for a few days.  The second trip is made approximately 1-2 months later. On this trip the adoption is finalized and the visa is processed. The final trip takes approximately 2-3 weeks to complete.

The family will stay in beautiful Guadalajara for a total of approximately 5-7 weeks. This upscale (by Mexican standards) metropolitan city has all the ammenities of a large cities which include many of the conveniences we enjoy in the United States- including a Walmart. Many US citizens travel to Mexico to vacation for pleasure, as the US dollar is still a bargain compared to the Mexican Peso. This makes travel more affordable than many other countries.

Waiting... waiting... waiting... why are these children without families? Children that are available for international adoption are orphans. They are orphaned for many reasons. This is most often due to their birth families inability to parent based on poverty. Poverty worldwide creates the need for international adoption, but it is not the only reason.

Education is another common factor. In many countries, birth control is not widely offered nor is it taught in the family, community or in school. Birth mothers also can lack education on how to parent a child or have the capability to earn a living wage to support the child. So education can play a large part in children becoming orphaned.

In some situations, when a birth mother does become pregnant she may be shunned by both her family and her community. Many times this leads to desperate situations that force a birth parent to either abandon or relinquish their child.

Sadly there are other factors that create orphans, war, worldwide famine, drought and the AIDS epidemic have also created orphans in many countries. These factors are the most common reasons for children to become available for international adoption.
