Children's House Welcomes
our newest arrival from Moldova!

New Arrival!

Moldova is a small country that sits between the Ukraine and Romania. It actually use to be a part of Romania pre-World War II. After the war, a small part of Romania was given to Russia. After 1989, Moldova became it's own country which has an influence of Russian and Romanian to this day. Both languages are spoken in the country. The children are Russian looking-blonde hair, blue-eyed, but occasionally there are children that have darker skin, hair and eyes.

Children referred are usually older and special needs. Moldova is going through a change of process and we are waiting to see what age ranges will be approved for adoption. Pictures, video and medical are provided for the families.

Waiting... waiting... waiting... why are these children without families? Children that are available for international adoption are orphans. They are orphaned for many reasons. This is most often due to their birth families inability to parent based on poverty. Poverty worldwide creates the need for international adoption, but it is not the only reason.

Education is another common factor. In many countries, birth control is not widely offered nor is it taught in the family, community or in school. Birth mothers also can lack education on how to parent a child or have the capability to earn a living wage to support the child. So education can play a large part in children becoming orphaned.

In some situations, when a birth mother does become pregnant she may be shunned by both her family and her community. Many times this leads to desperate situations that force a birth parent to either abandon or relinquish their child.

Sadly there are other factors that create orphans, war, worldwide famine, drought and the AIDS epidemic have also created orphans in many countries. These factors are the most common reasons for children to become available for international adoption.

If you are a US citizen living abroad, please contact our program directors who specializes in helping our families in those situations.

Requirements for the family: Parents should be 21 years or older. Single parents can adopt. There is no restriction if you have children already. Parents over 45 should be decided on a case by case basis.

Timeframe: After all of your paperwork is completed, including certification seals, State Department seals and Moldovan Embassy seals and sent to the country, your file will be registered. At this time, the referral timeframe is unknown. Please check with our agency for more information regarding timeframes and process information.

Travel: One or both parents may travel and must be present at the courtdate. You have the choice of one trip of 3 weeks in length, or two trips of one week each in length. If you opt for the 3 week trip, you may stay and visit your child during the waiting period after the courtdate or travel through Europe while waiting, returning 15 days after the courtdate. After the adoption is completed, you will interview at the American Embassy in Moldova and then travel to Bucharest, Romania for the issuance of the Immigrant Visa.

Our Romanian staff and Moldovan staff will assist you throughout the adoption process. You have the choice of staying in our apartments or in a hotel. Our agency will assist you with the many choices of airline routes.

Our agency personnel have been involved with Moldova and their adoption program since 1994.

Please contact our office for adoption fees for the Moldovan program.
